Legends & Fairytales
Standalone episode — no prior listening required.
Three minutes. A fire. And a story the villagers speak of only in hushed voices.
Deep beneath the earth lies Alsukhur’s mine—a place where the tunnels twist beyond memory, and where one soul never found the way back.
Some say you can still hear him.
A distant strike of metal against stone.
A lantern where no light should be.
Footsteps… just out of sight.
This is not a story of what happened.
It is a story of what remains.
You are listening to stories from Väruld. In this episode, Ghost story Alsukhur.
NarratorGather round, my friends, and lend your ears to a tale of Alsukhur's mine, a place where shadows weave their haunting dance with the flickering torchlight. It's a story known to every villager, a story of a lost soul doomed to wander the labyrinthine tunnels for eternity. Deep within the heart of the mine, where darkness seems to stretch beyond reason, a miner's ghost dwells. He was no different from his fellow laborers, none different from any of you, save for one fateful day when the earth shook, and a minor cavin tore him away from the others, and later, even from the company of living people. Separated from his comrades, he ventured deeper into the abyss, his lantern the only source of comfort against the oppressive blackness. Desperation must have clawed at his heart, for he knew nothing of a way back to the surface. The day ended, and another day. Days passed, yet still he pressed on, driven by a single flicker of hope to reunite with his comrades. But deep within the earth, hope fades like a distant memory. Now, as the legend goes, the ghostly miner roams these subterranean passages, his spectral form illuminated by a pale, unearthly light. The very lantern that guided him in life, now a beacon in the realm of the dead. Some who have ventured into the mine speak of hearing the phantom echoes of his pickaxe striking the unyielding rock, an eternal labor that knows no end. Others swear they've glimpsed his ethereal figure, eternally seeking a path home, but forever lost in the winding tunnels. So, my friends, should you ever venture near the mine, remember the tale of the lost miner. A reminder that even in the depths of despair, hope and determination can bind a soul to a place, etching a story that lingers like a wisp of ghostly lantern light in the darkness.
