Some ships disappear. Others become warnings. From the Library of Kennis comes the account of Havfut, the pirate ship that defied a newly united Deris and slipped, again and again, beyond the reach of justice.
You are listening to stories from Väruld. In this episode, Havfut, the pirate ship. In the turbulent waters of Sakhira's Neck, just outside the coast of what is now a united Deris, the pirate ship Havfut carved its name into the annals of history. The name Havfut, translating to "man's head" in the old tongue, was a foreboding omen to all who saw its silhouette against the horizon. This vessel was not merely a ship; it was a symbol of defiance against the nascent unity of Deris, a thorn in the side of both the newly united country and the mariners who dared traverse its claimed territories. The Havfut and its crew were notorious for their audacity, striking swiftly and vanishing like phantoms before retribution could be sought. Legends tell of its port hidden amongst the scattered isles of Munquat Alma, a labyrinthine archipelago that offered shelter to those who wished to remain shrouded from the prying eyes of the world. The ship, it is said, was a masterwork of piracy: swift, silent, and deadly, equipped with cannons stolen from a hundred defeated foes and sails as dark as the deepest night, rendering it nearly invisible under the cloak of darkness. Despite the countless efforts to capture Havfut and bring its crew to justice, the ship seemed touched by the sea itself, always slipping away into the mists, a ghostly specter that haunted the waters around Deris. Over time, as the tales of its exploits grew, Havfut transcended its material existence, becoming a legend, a story told by sailors to caution and thrill in equal measure. Today, the ship and its crew are lost to history, their final fate a mystery that fuels the imagination of those who still whisper the name Havfut in awe and fear.
